Citrus Processors, Inc. comes to life

In 1988, together with Sam Perricone, a living icon in the citrus industry, Citrus Processors, Inc., was formed. This venture was formed to discover new opportunities emerging in the “by-products” segment of the western US citrus industry. “By-products” in the context of citrus, refers to the citrus fruit that is not sold as whole fresh fruit but used for other purposes, mainly juices.

For over 20 years, Citrus Processors and its cohort Citrus Industries focused on this ‘by-product” segment of the citrus industry and adding-value to the growers’ crops. Through its course, Jim Reed and the company became an integral part of the “sophistication” of the “fresh” juice business in North America.

They pioneered technology to extend the shelf-life of juice in processing facilities in California, Florida, and Mexico; they assisted the onset and formation in the 1990’s of the “cut-fruit” industry and supplied not only citrus, but grapes, melons, and stone-fruits as well.

"With a little more tweaking, we could make orange juice in the orange without any packaging or processing."
